ANT 462 Week 1 Assignment Literature Search and Review

Short description

Literature Search and Review. The weekly assignments in this class will build towards the Final Paper, a research design proposal. The purpose of the first assignment is to help you come up with a research topic, research question, and literature review on the topic. This research project is purely hypothetical and can be anything you wish to study, but must include ethnographic fieldwork. Chose a culture or subculture you wish to study and a research question you wish to address. As we learned from our reading assignment this week, once you have developed a research topic, you need to review what other researchers have already considered on the topic. Please review pages 26-36 in Chapter 2 of Qualitative Research Methods for the Social Sciences, before completing this assignment. Then, review the Final Paper instructions found within the Final Paper link in your online course or under the “Components of Course Evaluation” section of this guide. To help with the preparation of the proposal, complete the following and submit it to your instructor for feedback: 1 Topic and Research Question: Provide and explanation of your topic and formulate a research question. 2 Thesis: Develop your thesis statement. This will become the point or perspective you will argue or prove in the paper. Please see the Thesis Generator page in the Ashford Writing Center for information on how
to develop a solid thesis. 3 APA Reference Page: For this paper you need to do research in peer-reviewed journals or other sources
that are considered to have reliable information. In addition to the textbook, you need at least five scholarly journals or ethnographies (at least two from the Ashford Online Library). For the literature review, provide the following information for each selected resource:
 Name of the article including the complete bibliographic citation using APA format  ◦   Summary/abstract of the article (annotation)
Sometimes it is helpful to ask yourself the following questions in synthesizing the information: 1 Who is the author? 2 What was done (e.g., an experimental study investigating the interaction of short-term
memory and attention)? 3 How was it done? 4 What were the findings (i.e., identify the major ones)? 5 What were the contributions (i.e., identify findings/new learning that has expanded your
knowledge of the topic)? ◦   A statement about how the article relates to your own thesis
